St. Vasyl and Malanka Holiday
Students of specialized school №20 visited us with songs voiced wishes and warm words. They welcomed all the school family with a holiday of Vasyl and Malanka, they brought the goat, sang carols and songs, wished everyone good and peaceful sky. Today, a day when every dwelling Ukrainian carolers come to wish good New Year and congratulate the year that has passed.
In the old days it was thought that New Year’s Eve (Old Style) converge sun and the moon, and this is the beginning of a whole new, in particular – the New Year. Our ancestors symbolized Malanka as moon and Vasyl was a symbol of the sun. It was believed that on this night Vasyl married Malanka.
