The school year has not started yet, and we are already learning! The project “Empowering Youth to Reconcile Society: Promoting Mutual Understanding and Nonviolent Communication” brought together representatives of educational institutions in Volyn, Donetsk, Kirovohrad, Luhansk, Ternopil and Cherkasy to participate in the camp. All participating schools have already conducted trainings for students, workshops for teachers, arranged #Class Classes for mediation. In the camp, young people from different parts of Ukraine communicate with their peers, exchange ideas and experiences on the cultural, social and geographical diversity of Ukraine. This helps to understand the position of the other party (the most important prerequisite for resolving conflicts in accordance with the principles of mediation). In addition, it helps to reduce prejudice and develop a sense of unity – an important prerequisite for society’s ability to achieve peace. Today in the Cherkasy City Council meeting hall the camp participants were greeted by Maryna Harkava, Deputy Mayor for Executive Bodies of the Cherkasy City Council, Maria Tyshchenko, Project Manager, Executive Director of the NGO “Near”, Project Coordinator of the Eastern Partnership Department ChildFundDeutschland, Germany. During the first two days of the camp, adults and children took part in various activities: got acquainted, presented their institutions, played, sang guitar, talked, walked around the city, visited the Cherkasy Regional Museum of Local Lore.
