Since September 2016 the school will introduce a new course choice “Steps to Understanding”, which aims – to teach children critical thinking, tolerance, dialogue and building media literacy.

Deputy Director Barsukova Larysa Mykhailivna was training for teachers who will set out this course.

The project initiated by NGO “Teachers for Democracy and Partnership”. The subject “Steps to Understanding” has been approved by MES Ukraine.

The project has already written in the textbook “Steps to Understanding” for high school. Training course materials are designed for children 15-16 years (10-11 class).

The objectives of the course are:

-         develop in students a positive attitude and motivation to use behaviors focused on tolerance and moral values ​​of the Ukrainian society and democracy, commitment to effective communication in everyday life;

-         shape students’ experience of tolerant relationships with peers, parents, teachers, friends and strangers conscious choice of appropriate behaviors productive cooperation in the group and the team;

-         develop students’ ability to apply non-conflict behavior patterns, to determine their own position, to assess their own behavior and the behavior of other positions with the requirements of intercultural dialogue, respect for diversity of opinion and views, receive skills that promote community cohesion and family because of the existence of different points of view;

-         shape students’ ability to identify information and communication manipulation to select and use reliable information from different sources, especially from the media, have critical thinking about social conflict in Ukraine and represent a reasoned and structured views during the discussion and consideration of controversial, controversial topics.
