EARTH HOUR 2020
EARTH HOUR is the world’s largest initiative to support the planet’s conservation and sustainable use of its resources.
Each year, at Earth Hour, there is a symbolic shutdown of light for one hour (in 2020 – March 28 from 8.30pm-9.30pm) – in homes, offices and near places of interest and buildings in the world. The London Eye, the Sydney Theater, the Egyptian Pyramids, the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco, and the Coliseum in Rome all fade away as symbols of hope for the active action of each of us for the sake of a sustainable, nature-friendly world. Thousands of events are happening in more than 180 countries – from joint meditations to festivals and runs to support the momentum of this Hour.
This year Earth Day will be physically celebrated at home. Our focus is on saving lives – our own and our loved ones. And this is the most natural feature of every living being on the Planet. It is an hour of reflection, an hour of inner action to create a world where humans live in harmony with nature.
Earth Hour is still a symbolic shutdown of one hour of extra lighting and appliances, a time to feel like the children of this incredible planet. But, most importantly, it is an impulse to develop, educate and reflect on the habits of our own, family, company and the whole country for the sake of living in harmony with nature.
The school community will also be involved in leading sustainable (nature-friendly) societal transformations. This year, we are disseminating information by electronic means.
Our actions:
- Tell others about Earth Hour and why it exists.
- Find out more from the international and Ukrainian Earth Hour website.
- Make videos (such as a phone) for yourself on Earth Hour on topics related to the environment, nature and daily habits that are nature-friendly. For inspiration, watch video comments from children from other countries about the life and future of the planet.
- Make a calendar or list of the most important daily habits that help protect the environment. You can choose from these ideas from WWF-Ukraine’s Sustainable Consumption Tips.
- Use the necessary visual elements.
- Suggest a home viewing of nature films (WWF-Ukraine tips).
Let’s join in!
