Every year on the third Thursday of May, Ukraine celebrates Embroidery Shirt Day — a holiday that unites Ukrainians around national culture and traditions. This year, our school traditionally joined the celebration. Embroidery Shirt is not just a beautiful outfit, it is a flowered Ukrainian soul, beautiful, rich, filled with love for the whole world.
From the very morning, the school was filled with bright colours — students, teachers, and employees came in Embroidery Shirt. Each shirt contains a piece of history, family memory, and love for their native land. Children proudly demonstrated Embroidery Shirts that are passed down from generation to generation, or made by themselves.
During the day, various events were held at the school: an interesting video about the history of embroidery shirt and the process of its creation was broadcast in the foyer, a photo shoot near the festive photo zone, an exhibition of Ukrainian ornaments, and a master class. High school students prepared a thematic performance in which they talked about the history of Ukrainian embroidery, its symbolism and significance in the culture of our people.
Such holidays not only create an elevated mood, but also help to instil patriotism in children, a respectful attitude towards their culture and traditions. Embroidery Shirt Day became another wonderful opportunity to feel unity and pride in the country.
Embroidery Shirt Day is an incredible day for the Ukrainian people. On this day, thousands of people support one of the most important traditions of our ancestors, wearing richly embroidered shirts.
