Unification Day
On January 22, the school community, along with all of Ukraine, celebrates the Day of Unity. On this day in 1919 the Act of Reunification of the Ukrainian People’s Republic and the Western Ukrainian People’s Republic was proclaimed in Kyiv. The 101st anniversary of the event was told to students by history teachers and classroom leaders. The School Parliamentary Education Committee called on everyone to continue the tradition and join the Challenge: “Read and tell a friend the facts about Ukraine’s independence”. 9th and 10th grade students joined the Flash mob at Cathedral Square. The participants of the event paid a minute’s silence to all those who died for the will of Ukraine. Later on Cathedral Square formed a long “live chain”, holding hands. And the students lined up in the big inscription “Let’s unite Ukraine”. The event ended with a joint performance of the anthem of Ukraine.
Note: The Day of Unification is a holiday of Ukraine, celebrated annually on January 22, the day of the proclamation of the Act of Union of the Ukrainian People’s Republic and the Western Ukrainian People’s Republic, which took place in 1919.
On this day, it is also customary to mention another event that happened exactly a year earlier on January 22, 1918 – the adoption of the IV Universal UCR, which proclaimed full independence of the UPR.
