Weekdays of American students
For more than half a year student of our school Talalaievska Maria lives and studies in the US. Recently we received from her another letter that place below.
Winter holidays together with the holidays passed quickly and after began the preparations for the semester examinations, because the semester is over after the holidays. Then I was able to show my host family and friends of true Ukrainian Christmas with the twelve dishes Christmas Eve. Although cooking took me 14 hours, most was that I was able to share our traditions with many people. After classes activities occupied almost all my free time. And after them come themselves examinations.
In January I also had the opportunity to go to Annapolis – the capital of Maryland. However, I went there a little longer, and still hope to be able to go there in the spring. And immediately after the trip to Annapolis I, along with other students went on exchange to the station for NASA visitors. I also visited the grand rally in Washington, called the March for Life. This is a peaceful demonstration, which takes place annually in the US capital on January 22, the anniversary of the Supreme Court of the United States Roev. Wade on the legality of abortion. Thousands of people come to the capital from this. However, could get a lot more if not for the snow storm that began with the day. Thanks to it, the students were able to relax after exams, after school classes were canceled for a whole week!
In February I went to orientation for students on exchange in my organization, visited the Holocaust museum and in a place where diplomats are studying the language of the countries to which they travel. There I visited a section of the Ukrainian language, trying to remember spoken Ukrainian. After talks with diplomats, I even get lucky Ukrainian candy in memory.
Now schooling is easier, but not quiet. Recently at the school have been many fights, and students believe that this week will be a record of their number. Currently there were 10 schools that forced the administration to improve the level of protection for schools, increasing the number of guards. Rather, everything would work out pretty quickly, and the school will return to its usual quiet life.
We have become much warmer and the trees have blossomed flowers. It seems that a week later begins the summer, though, the American calendar, spring has not even begun. I hope that you have the weather begins to indulge gentle sun and warmth.
Best regards,
Maria Talalaievska
