Anti-Slavery Day
The International Day for the Abolition of Slavery is celebrated annually on December 2. The date was chosen not by chance, on December 2, 1949 the UN General Assembly adopted the Convention on Action against Trafficking in Human Beings. Trafficking in human beings is an urgent problem today. The world is thriving on the slave trade… And this is not a mention of the terrible period of slavery in ancient times. Experts in the world estimate that between two and four million people are trafficked each year. Also, according to unofficial data, almost 4 million citizens of Ukraine work illegally abroad, which negatively affects their legal protection and causes them to fall into the sphere of interests of traffickers. In our difficult times and within our state, you can get into the net of slave traders. As part of the “16 Days Against Violence” campaign, the school family joined in the celebration of this event. School self-government acquainted primary school students with the history of this negative phenomenon that still exists in the world. The teacher-organizer in 7-A class conducted classes with elements of the training “Be careful”, aimed at forming ideas about human trafficking, the development of skills of safe behavior. In the information hours of communication, students of 6th and 8th grades found out what slavery is, the time and reasons for its occurrence, learned whether it exists today, learned to express their own attitude to the slave trade. The students learned about this shameful and frightening phenomenon through the example of J. Verne’s novel “The Fifteen-Year-Old Captain”, the leitmotif of which is the idea of condemning slavery.
