Remembrance and Reconciliation Day

Today the school community together with all the Ukrainian people celebrates the Day of Remembrance and Reconciliation. We remember what a terrible disaster the Second World War was for Ukrainians. We remember that the aggressor was stopped by the joint efforts of the United Nations. Let’s not forget: the one who defends his land always wins. This memory makes us stronger. It is a guarantee that such a tragedy will not happen again in the future. Ukraine made a significant contribution to the victory over Nazism and Germany’s allies. The price of this was the extraordinary losses of Ukrainians and citizens of Ukraine of other nationalities during 1939-1945. The most difficult are demographic ones, which are estimated at 8-10 million people.
Remembrance and Reconciliation Day does not symbolize the triumph of the victors over the vanquished, but should be a reminder of a terrible catastrophe and a warning that complex international problems cannot be solved by force of arms, ultimatums, aggression, and annexation. It is over and the most important result should be not victory but peace.
We appeal to the entire school community on this day to supplement their clothes with red poppies – a symbol of memory of almost 8 million dead compatriots and 65 million killed in the world.
